A woman in her mid-twenties confessed to the brutal murder of Dr Satish Chandra after surrendering at the Govind Nagar police station on Friday. She was later arrested and her custody given to Kanpur Dehat police.
Senior government doctor Chandra was found brutally murdered with his genitals chopped off at the tourist bungalow in Rania, Kanpur Dehat, on Sunday noon. Later, an attempt was made to courier the chopped body parts to Dr Chandra's wife. Balmiki had recently cleared the Teacher’s Eligibilty Test (TET).
The girl, identified as Preeti Balmiki, aka Lata, said she killed Dr Chandra as he had been sexually exploiting her since she was a minor and was now planning to do the same with her younger sister.
Balmiki told Govind Nagar station head Mohammad Abbas that doctor Satish Chandra had visited her house in 2001 to treat her younger sister and became close to her father, whom he helped financially. The doctor bore all expenses of Balmiki’s studies and employed her to take care of his clinic. He also taught her to use medical apparatus. In 2003, Balmiki said, Dr Chandra gave her sedatives when she was down with fever and raped her.
The girl claimed, since that incident, the doctor had been injecting her with drugs and sexually exploiting her after turning her into an addict. After he made a few attempts to rape her sister, she decided to eliminate him, said Balmiki.
"I called Dr Chandra on the night of July 15 and asked him to meet me. He fixed July 21 to stay with me at the tourist house in Rania in Kanpur Dehat," she said.
Balmiki gave the doctor alcohol mixed with sedatives, making him unconscious. She claimed she initially tried to staple his lips and then slit his neck with the surgical blade. She severed Dr Chandra's genitals and confessed that she had tried to parcel them to the victim’s wife Soni.
Senior superintendent of police Yashasvi Yadav held a press conference later in the day and confirmed that the girl had been arrested by Govind Nagar police team headed by station head Mohammad Abbas after her surrender. He announced a cash reward of Rs. 25,000 for the cops.
