Veena Bharti, IPS, who took over as suprintendent of police (SP) of Hamirpur district on Monday, said her main endeavour would be to protect the rights of the women and to regulate traffic in the district.

During an interaction with Hindustan Times, she said that she would try to educate the women about their legal and other rights and to motivate them to work in unison with their male counterparts.

She said traffic violation was a major nuisance in the district, and thus, she would strive hard to bring certain changes in systematic manner to regulate the traffic.

Bharti appealed to the people to observe the traffic rules, wear helmets while riding on two-wheelers and keep all necessary documents with them while travelling.

She would be visiting various parts of the district in coming days, where she would meet people and learn the geography of those areas to prepare strategy for crime control, she added.

Earlier, in the morning, Bharti visited all branches of her office, where she told the officers and other staff to work without any fear and favour, but give priority to the works assigned to them from time to time.
