Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha and 51 other BJP workers were on Tuesday, sent to 14 days of judicial custody when they refused to seek bail for the alleged assault of a manager from the Jharkhand State Electricity Board.

They were arrested on Monday after angry party workers stormed the power board office while protesting the irregular power supply in the state and the prolonged powercuts. They allegedly held the manager hostage and tied him to his chair.

The demonstrators have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, the BJP women’s wing has filed a counter FIR against the staff of the power board charging them of deliberate harassment.

On Monday morning, BJP officials along with the ex-MP of Hazaribagh held a dharna outside the electricity board offices.

It soon turned violent when the protestors realized that the manager was not in his office. When he arrived at 2 pm, they locked his office and allegedly tied him to his chair.

The police rushed to calm the situation and soon arrested Sinha along with 51 other workers.

They have been lodged at Jai Prakash Naryan Central jail in Hazaribagh.
