You can now enjoy a meal on city’s first on-the-move restaurant

Starting tomorrow, you can book a table at the city’s first mobile restaurant, The Moving Cart. Located inside a customised double-decker bus, the restaurant will offer pre-cooked meals thrice a day here.

Diners can choose to dine at the open-air upper deck or an air-conditioned lower deck. In the company of piped music and mood lighting, diners can enjoy the view of the Arabian Sea during the meal. The bus will go from Marine Drive to Chowpatty and back, in one-and-a-half hours.

Meals at The Moving Cart are available in three time slots — 1pm, 7pm and 10pm — and are priced at Rs 1,200  for a vegetarian meal and Rs1,400 for a non-vegetarian meal. Each meal features 12 items, including mocktails, soups, starters and desserts.

This mobile restaurant venture has been brought to the city by The Moving Cart, a private company that runs a similar service in Chennai, in association with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). “Motivated by a successful run in Chennai, we are excited to bring the mobile dining concept to Mumbai,” said Moving Cart co-founder Hardik Shah, speaking at the launch on Thursday.

Jagdish Patil, managing director of MTDC, said, “It is a very novel concept. We need more initiatives like this one to boost tourism in Mumbai.”

A similar mobile restaurant will soon come up in Bandra, said Shah.

However, the interiors of the customised bus, featuring mirrors on the ceiling and slightly worn upholstery, could do with an upgrade.
