Police on Thursday arrested a youth in Odisha who posted morphed vulgar and obscene photographs of a girl on social networking sites just because she had refused his marriage proposal.
The cyber crime police station of the state crime branch (CB) arrested Gautam Pandit (23) from Rourkela, about 500km northwest of Bhubaneswar, on the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl's family on December 31 last year.
"When the case came to us, the cyber crime branch started an investigation. During the course of investigation prima facie evidence was made out against accused and he was arrested," additional director general of police, crime branch, said.
Investigation revealed Pandit, a native of Balasore district, about 150km east of Bhubaneswar, had become infatuated with the 22-year-girl from the same district and wanted to marry her. He even sent a marriage proposal to the girl's family through a relative.
But after the girl rejected his offer, Pandit – school drop out but computer-savvy – took it as a humiliation and posted her morphed vulgar photographs on the social networking sites last year.
It took some time for the cyber crime police to track Pandit because he often disappeared from the social networking site only to resurface. But finally, his luck ran out.
