Even as the police maintained that Preity Zinta’s lawyers had left them “guessing” over the date and time when the actor would be ready to record her statement, the delay is learnt to have been caused due to a technical reason.

The actor’s statement is to be recorded after she filed a complaint accusing her ex-boyfriend and industrialist Ness Wadia of molesting, abusing and threatening her on May 30.

A tug of war seems to be going on between the police and the actor over the selection of the venue for recording the statement and that is causing the delay. Highly placed sources in the Mumbai Police told HT that the actor informed the police that she wanted to record her statement at her Khar residence.

However, the Marine Drive police, who are investigating the case, want to record her supplementary statement at Wankhede Stadium, the venue where she had allegedly been threatened, abused and molested. “For the spot panchnama, she would be required to record the statement at the place of the alleged offence. If the statement is recorded at her residence, she would again have to come to the place of the alleged offence to conduct a spot panchnama, a mandatory procedure,” the source said.

Another official claimed that the actor had been intimated about the police’s request to conduct the spot panchnama at Wankhede on Tuesday. “We are waiting for her response,” the official added.
