The 30-year-old started off cautiously but got going when he slammed two boundaries off Mohammed Shami, who was playing his 50th ODI. With Finch starting confidently, David Warner displayed aggression as he attacked the Indian bowlers.
While Warner raced away to an aggressive fifty, Finch held one end up and scored at a steady rate. On 47, he survived a close stumping chance off Yuzvendra Chahal as MS Dhoni failed to collect the ball.
The right-hander reached his landmark off 65 balls as the partnership went past 100, the first time that Australia had registered a 100-run stand for the opening wicket in this series.
Finch opened up after going past his fifty as he lofted Axar Patel inside out over extra cover and glanced a boundary to fine leg. The right-hander continued his acceleration by blasting Chahal over long off for yet another six.
While David Warner fell for 124, Finch failed to get his century, falling for 94 as he ended up slogging a slow ball from Umesh Yadav to mid-on. However, the efforts of Warner and Finch have ensured Australia have a big total on board.
