Pat Cummins to return after India vs Australia ODI cricket series
Pat Cummins’ return from the India vs Australia series is part of a plan to manage the injury-prone fast bowler’s international workload
Pat Cummins will return home from Australia’s tour of India following the five-match one-day international series. The fifth ODI will be played in Nagpur on October 1. India lead the series 2-0 following their 50-run win at the Eden Gardens on Thursday. (IND vs AUS 2nd ODI HIGHLIGHTS)
National Selector Trevor Hohns said: “Pat has played a considerable amount of cricket this year after a long period away from the game due to injury.
“His body has handled the return to international cricket well, but we believe the best plan for him ahead of the Ashes Series is to return home to refresh, both mentally and physically, before he prepares for Sheffield Shield cricket.”
A decision on a replacement for the 25-year-old Pat Cummins in the T20 International squad will be announced in due course.
Pat Cummins has led the Australian pace attack in India. On Thursday, the tall quickie exploited Eden’s grassy track to bowl an economical spell of 10-1-34-1. He went wicketless in the first ODI in Chennai that India won.
