1,955 schools covered under rural sanitation in J&K

In a bid to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene throughout the state, Jammu and Kashmir government have provided sanitary units in 1,955 schools under rural sanitation scheme in the current financial year.

Also, 19,000 households will get the benefit of the individual household total sanitation campaign, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Ali Mohammad Sagar said in Jammu on Wednesday.

Speaking at a meeting called to monitor various sanitation and hygiene schemes and other rural developmental projects in the state, Sagar directed the Deputy Commissioners, who are also the chairmen of district water and sanitation mission, to make sure all the schools in their respective districts have sanitation units before the end of the financial year.

Later, a deputation of MLAs called on the minister to talk about the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Assurance Scheme and construction of Panchayat Ghars across the state.
