1 killed, 5 injured in MP town after violence, curfew imposed

One person was killed while five were injured following violence between two groups during a cricket match at Maksi town, about 25 kms from Shajapur.

One person was killed while five were injured following violence between two groups during a cricket match at Maksi town, about 25 kms from Shajapur.

The police have imposed an indefinite curfew this evening in the township.

A 22 year-old youth Sakit Khan was killed in firing by some unidentified persons after violence broke out during the match. He was rushed to a hospital in Ujjain but died while being treated, IGP for Ujjain, Pawan Jain told PTI.

The five injured are undergoing treatment at Shajapur district hospital, police said.

Additional police force has been rushed to Maksi where the situation is said to be tense but under control, police said.

Stones were thrown from both sides and there were also incidents of arson, they added.
