10 auto-lifters arrested in Delhi

With the arrest of ten auto lifters, Delhi police on Monday claimed to have busted two gangs of auto thieves.
A gang of luxury car thieves including Gurjeet Singh alias Rinkal, Ranjeet Singh alias Raja and Jitender alias Babloo, aged 28, 35 and 22 years respectively were nabbed and a Santro car, a bajaj Chetak scooter and engines of 18 cars were recovered from them, the South District Police said on Monday.
They also led police to four godowns full of automobile spare parts and dismantled cars in the Mayapuri.
Their interrogation revealed that auto-lifters from western UP, Punjab and Jammu used to contact them and they used to purchase stolen luxury cars with fake number plates at nominal price, they said.
The cars were then taken to their rented godowns where they were dismantled by machanic Jitender and their engines and chasis numbers changed, they said adding efforts were on to arrest others associated with them, police officials said.
The East District Police also claimed to have arrested six auto-lifters and recovered three motorcycles, one Scorpio Jeep and two cars from them.
The six suspects--- Tinku Sagar (22), Vikram Singh (22), Abid (230, Parvez (23), Shravan (22) and Jitender Singh (21) were arrested yesterday from Old Seema Puri on a tip-off.
In a separate incident, the East District Police nabbed one Mohammed Azhar, 20, with the recovery of one Maruti car.
According to police, Azhar was arrested last morning near the Welcome Metro Station at the GT Road here while allegedly driving a stolen Zen car, documents for which he could not produce during checking of vehicles.
