At least 10 people were killed when a tractor-trolley was hit by a speedily-driven truck on the Ichhawar-Rehti road near Nasrullaganj in the adjoining Sehore district on late Sunday night.

There were three women among those who died in the mishap. According to police officials, the victims had gone to Narmada river for a holy dip earlier in the day and were returning when the truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into the tractor trolley.

The tractor-trolley had overturned and the victims were crushed under it. Eight people died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries in the hospitals later. Around 15 people were injured in the mishap, eight of whom were seriously injured.

Superintendent of police (SP) Raman Singh Sikarwar confirmed that 10 people had died in the incident. The police officials reached the spot and rushed the victims to the district hospital in Sehore and government hospital at Ichhawar town.

Initial reports suggest that most of the victims hailed from Ladawat in Shajapur district. They had gone to Anwli Ghat on the banks of Narmada for the dip. The police officials said efforts are on to ascertain the identities of the victims.
