In a horrific accident at around 3 am, 10 youths were killed and 16 others injured when the pick-up truck in which they were travelling collided head-on with a truck near Bhojakhedi village, some 20 km away from Khandwa on Indore-Icchapur state highway.
The youths were returning to their village Kodlajagir, Bhikangaon tehsil of Khargone district from a gabra competition held at Kaldiya village near Chegaon Makhan when the accident took place.
The deceased were identified as Ravi s/o Hiralal 20,Dependra s/o Fattu 19, Mangilal s/o Rajaram 17 ,Rohit s/o Dinesh 12 , Ajay s/o Rajesh 17 , Mangal s/o Nannu 20 , Vijay s/o AnandRam 25 , Sunil alias Sonu s/o Kallu 18 , Govind s/o Rakesh 15 and Ravi s/o Sakharam 20 all resident of Kodlajagir
Khandwa superintendent of police Manoj Sharma said the truck (MP09HG 0437) laden with wheat, was coming from Ujjain and moving toward Hyderabad when it collided with the pick-up truck (MP10 G 1149).
Khandwa collector M K Agrawal and Khargone collector Neeraj Dubey visited the district hospital where the injured are being treated. Collector Dubey said chief minister has announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Chegaon Makhan police station in-charge Sharif Khan said the truck driver fled after the accident. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their family, Khan said.
