Foiling a major intrusion bid, the Indian Army killed seven terrorists in north Jammu and Kashmir even as one soldier died in the operation on Thursday. Three terrorists were gunned in another incident of gunfight.
Alert army troops foiled the infiltration bid near Zorawar village in Uri sector of Baramulla district in north Kashmir and gunned down seven terrorists.
"The operation in Zorawar area on the Line of Control in Uri sector is still continuing. The intrusion bid was detected by the troops and the intruders were challenged. A fierce gunfight erupted which is still on. So far, security forces have gunned down seven terrorists. One soldier of 9 Maratha Light Infantry was also killed," a senior police officer said in Srinagar.
In another incident, a group of terrorists ambushed a road opening party of the army in Pyarpora village near the border town of Kupwara, 110 km from Srinagar, in the afternoon.
"The terrorists were encircled immediately and engaged in a sustained encounter. Three terrorists were gunned down by the security forces," a defence spokesman said.
