There has been a 100 per cent increase in the projects sanctioned by National Cooperative Development Corporation in 2005-2006 since last year.
Giving this information at the General Council of NCDC, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said on Tuesday that projects worth Rs 3170 crore had been sanctioned this year by NCDC.
He said 39 per cent of the total disbursement had been made to those states where co operatives are not fully developed. The agro processing sector is receiving 40 per cent of the assistance and marketing and input activities accounted for 34 per cent. Co-operatives by weaker sections accounted for 24 per cent of the assistance,he added.
He said the government was implementing a Rs 13,000 crore package to revitalise the co-operative credit system.
He said the NCDC must diversity and expand its activities to take advantage of growth opportunities in service sectors like education, health, transport and tourism.
