ACTION AGAINST 104 teachers found erring on various grounds during a recently concluded high-level surprise inspection of 90 schools has been recommended by the District Education Office (DEO) to the Directorate of Public Education, Bhopal on Tuesday.

DEO Maya Malviya, while speaking to Hindustan Times, said her department had prepared an inspection report for the day-long surprise checks conducted by 10 teams from outside the district.  The recommendations made include sending 73 show cause notices, 24 for freezing salaries and seven recommendations for suspension.

Many teachers including upper-level staff such as principals were found missing during duty hours though they had signed on the entry attendance register.  Other discrepancies included poor classroom performance and those related to the mid-day meal scheme.

Inspections were carried out in the entire district on the express orders of Public Education director L S Baghel to check the large number of discrepancies reported from Indore. Stern action would be initiated against erring teachers.
The original inspection schedule was prepared for 107 schools but those located in far off places were left out.

The department plans to conduct inspections specifically targeting remote areas, which have hitherto escaped checks.
