The family of the 11-year-old boy who was beaten up by officials from the Pant Nagar police station, said action should be taken against the policemen.
The family of the 11-year-old boy who was beaten up by officials from the Pant Nagar police station, said action should be taken against the policemen.
The family said the boy would lose an academic year because he couldn’t appear for two examinations after the incident, which took place when the police thought he had hurled a water balloon at one of them, although the boy’s cousin claims it was thrown by some miscreants. The boy is still recuperating at Rajawadi Hospital, Ghatkopar
Top police officials said the transfer of police sub inspector Sachin Jadhav from Pant Nagar police station to the east region police control room at Chembur was ordered to ensure fair investigation in the incident.
“We have learnt that one policeman has been transferred. However, we want adequate action to be taken against the other policemen who were also involved in the assault. We want justice,” said Sanjay Chowgule, 30, the minor’s cousin.
An IPS officer said, “The incident is of serious nature and requisite action will be taken against the concerned policemen.”
The boy was allegedly thrashed by a group of policemen late on Tuesday night when a balloon hit a patrolling policeman and he thought that the 11-year-old boy had purposely thrown it at him.
When HT spoke to Chowgule, he said his cousin was playing in an open ground in the Pant Nagar area when some people threw a water balloon at the policeman. They ran away, but the 11-year-old had gone to fetch his slippers when the police accosted him.
