12 Kashmiris from PoK arrested near Nepal border

Twelve Kashmiris, including five children and three women, who were arrested at the Indo-Nepal border in Madhubani by the SSB for trying to enter India from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir without valid travel documents were handed over to Jammu & Kashmir police on Thursday.

A police team has reached Madhubani, Bihar to get them back to the state.

During questioning, the four men, all in their late 20s, originally from Kupwara and Baramulla districts of Kashmir, said they had been picked up by terrorists and taken to Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir 12 years back, where they did menial jobs for survival.

“They said after hearing about the rehabilitation policy they first reached Peshawar then Karachi and then finally boarded the flight to Kathmandu from where they crossed over to Bihar,” said Madhubani SP Ranjit Kumar Mishra.

The J&K government’s rehabilitation policy allows safe passage to militants who want to return to the state from training camps across the LoC.

Unlike Liyaqat Shah, a surrendered militant who was arrested in March by Delhi Police on the grounds that he had been chosen to supervise young fidayeen recruits “who would commit spectacular terrorist strikes in Delhi”, no FIR has been registered in this case.
