A 12-year-girl studying in an Ashram School in Nashik allegedly committed suicide, police said on Saturday.

Vanita Tulshiram Gavit, studying in Std V, was found hanging in school premises on Friday. She was rushed to rural hospital, where she was declared dead, police said.

The school is located at Nagarsul in Yeola taluka of this North Maharashtra district.

Reason behind the suicide was not yet known, they added.

Ashram Schools admit students mainly from scheduled tribes.
