At least 13 people were killed and 39 injured, five of them seriously, when the bus carrying them fell into a gorge in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh early on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Chamel Singh said.
The accident occurred at Talwara at about 8.00 am while the crowded private bus was on its way to Nuli from Aut in the district.
Singh said seven people were killed on the spot, six others succumbed to the injuries at the Kullu Zonal Hospital, while 39 others were injured in the accident.
The condition of five of the injured was serious, he said and added that four of them have been referred to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) at Shimla, while another has been referred to PGI in Chandigarh.
He said some of the injured were undergoing treatment at Kullu Zonal Hospital, while a few others with minor injuries were discharged after first aid.
Singh said the cause of the accident was not yet known, adding that a case has been registered and investigations were on.
