At least 13 members of a marriage party were killed in Andhra Pradesh and seven injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck on Saturday.

The dead include six women and three children. The accident occurred at Marripadu village in Nellore district, about 350 kms from Hyderabad.

The marriage party was travelling in a Tata Sumo from Jammaladarga in Kurnool district to Bucchireddypalem in Nellore district. Police said the vehicle hit the truck while trying to overtake it.

While 12 people died on the spot, another succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals in Nellore.

Andhra Pradesh accounts for the highest number of road fatalities in the country. Last year, more than 12,000 people were killed in road accidents in the state.
