The Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday rescued at least 130 people trapped in an avalanche in north Kashmir's Kupwara mountain pass.

The avalance had hit Sadna Pass area on Kupwara-Tangdhar road in north Kashmir under heavy snowfall. Over a dozen vehicles were trapped on the road.

"We have managed to rescue 130 people," said a police spokesman in Srinagar.

The rescue operation was jointly conducted by the army and the police.
