The body of a 14-year-old boy was found on the premises of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd transformer unit, on Monday, at Savarkarnagar.
The body of Pradeep Yadav, an Ambewadi (Wagle Estate) resident, was found lying on a mattress, said the police.
The Vartaknagar police have filed an accidental death report.
“We are waiting for the post-mortem report to take action,” said Ashok Morale, deputy commissioner of police (zone V).
“We suspect he was killed as there were injury marks under his eyes and cheeks. His shirt was covered with blood. But we don’t know why someone would kill him. He was friendly with everyone,” said Manoj, the victim’s brother, a driver with the Thane Municipal Corporation.
“He called home from a public call office on Sunday saying that he was playing and will return home in some time. We were going to file a missing complaint today but we were told that a body has been found in Savarkarnagar,” said Manoj.
Ambewadi residents did not allow the police to take the body to the Thane Civil Hospital for post-mortem. “This is the third such incident in two years where a resident has been killed and his body dumped somewhere else,” said Manoj.
“We didn’t allow the police to take the body as we wanted them to promise quick and stern action. If they don’t nab the accused in 24 hours, we won’t exhume the body,” added Manoj.
