Aarushi Talwar, the 14-year-old daughter of a dentist couple, a student of Delhi Public School, was brutally stabbed to death early Friday in her Noida Sector 25 residence.

Hemraj, the Talwars’ 45-year-old domestic help, is the prime suspect, police say. Superintendent of Police MK Mishra said: “Hemraj has been missing since morning. It is suspected that he killed the girl.” Police have announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for information leading to his arrest.

Aarushi’s parents were at home at the time of the incident but did not notice the commotion that followed the murder. The body was discovered by their maid in Aarushi’s second floor bedroom.

Aarushi’s father Rajesh Talwar heads the Fortis Hospital’s dental department. The couple also runs a clinic at Sector 27’s Parasnath Mall. Their trusted servant Vishnu, who had worked with them for eight years, introduced Hemraj to the Talwar family.

Police found Aarushi lying in a pool of blood. Her throat had been slit and she bore stab wounds on her head. A whisky bottle and a glass were found on the dining table.

The post-mortem found excessive loss of blood as the reason for death. “Rape was not confirmed. We are working on other motives. A team has been sent to Hemraj’s Nepal village,” said Mishra.

Hemraj’s real name is Yam Prasad Banjade. “A passport in this name issued by Nepal government has been recovered from the servant quarter,” added Mishra.
