Altogether 141 candidates have filed their nominations for 11 parliamentary constituencies going to the polls during the second phase on April 23 for which filing ended on Saturday, official sources said.
The highest number of nominations--20 was filed for the Guwahati parliamentary seats and the prominent among these are former union minister and BJP candidate Bijoya Chakraborty and Congress candidate Capt Robin Bordoloi.
Tezpur was second with 18 candidates and the prominent are sitting Congress MP, Mani Kumar Subba, AGP’s Joseph Toppo and Asom United Democratic Front’s Laxmi Orang.
Altogether 16 candidates have filed their nominations for the Lakhimpur constituency.
In Jorhat, union minister Bijoy Handique filed his papers along with seven other candidates while in Kaliabor six have filed which include Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s brother and sitting MP Deep Gogoi.
In the first phase of polling on April 16, 37 candidates are in fray for three seats of Silchar, Karimganj and Autonomous (hills) constituency.
