At least 15 shops were gutted in a midnight fire in the heart of the city.
The fire, which broke out in a tyre-tube repairing shop on Hill Cart Road, just opposite to the offices of the Siliguri-Jalpaigui Development Authority and Provident Fund spread to a hotel.
A few gas cylinders kept in the hotel premises exploded intensifying the fire, the police said.
Six fire tenders fought for two hours to establish control over the blaze.
However, there was no report of any casualty or injury. The damage, if any, is being assessed.
