An Indian dhow, a small sailing vessel, with 16 Indians was hijacked off the Somalian coast on Saturday. It was taken to an undisclosed location. The Al Rafiquei was on its way to Mogadishu in Somalia from Dubai. It was carrying a cargo of rice, refined oil, wheat and general cargo.
“Coalition forces and the Indian Navy vessel operating in the Gulf of Aden have been informed about the incident and asked to provide immediate assistance,” said officers at the Director General, Shipping, office in Mumbai.
The office is waiting for information about the crew from the company. An officer from the Director General Shippings office said such vessels have just basic gadgets and their crew members are not certified.
