The 17-year-old schoolgirl, who was allegedly gangraped on February 24 by five men, has registered another FIR on Monday accusing four men of rape committed in May last year. One among the four men is an accused in the February case too. According to the victim, a case was not registered then due to fears of social stigma.
The fresh FIR has named Saurabh Chauhan, Sachin Yadav, Rohit and the fourth accused remained unidentified. The police had arrested Saurabh Chauhan, Himanshu Sharma, Rahul Arya, Sunil and Neeraj on the basis of the previous FIR.
The trauma of the Class 10 student was compounded by the police's lack of sensitivity when they disclosed the minor's name, her father's name and their residential address in a press release.
Her medical examination confirmed rape, which she said was committed by the five men in their 20s in a car after forcing her into consuming alcohol but the police said she had a few drinks willingly at a party for one of the men, whom she knew.
"We had asked the police to register the May 2011 case when the second incident was reported, but they didn't listen to us. She had told her mother about the first rape but didn't inform me or the police due to social stigma. If we would have taken legal recourse then, it wouldn't have happened again," said the victim's father.
The victim's family also complained that they were made to wait for a month to get the second FIR registered.
"We wanted to get this FIR registered in February itself but the police insisted we file it later. Even on Monday, I had reached the chowki at 3pm but the case was registered at 11pm. We also need police protection," said her father.
