Jammu and Kashmir police have recruited 173 youth during an on-the-spot recruitment rally in Srinagar town.

"As many as 173 candidates, belonging to 255 mohallas of Srinagar having negligible representation in police organisation, were recruited on the spot," a police spokesman said today.

He said the selection of the candidates was carried out by a committee headed by IGP, Kashmir, SM Sahai and under supervision of DGP Kuldeep Khoda at Bakshi Stadium yesterday.

"Hundreds of youth from Khonmoh, Hawan, Zoonimar and Juzvi Khanyar revenue Nayabats of Srinagar thronged Bakshi Stadium to get recruited. The rally was a part of the drive to recruit eligible youth in the force from the un-represented areas of the state," the spokesman said.

The new recruits include 54 graduates and post-graduates, 69 having higher secondary education and 50 matriculates.

Addressing the recruits, Khoda said they have been inducted in a disciplined force and their every act would be governed by the laid rules and regulations.

Khoda expressed hope that the enrolment of new youth would strengthen the department to ensure lasting peace in the state and also strengthen the image of the force at all levels.
