'180 lakh tonne foodgrain rotting in FCI godowns'

Expressing serious concern over inflation and price rise, the BJP on Saturday claimed that at least 180 lakh tonne of foodgrains was rotting in the open in FCI godowns in the country.

As against a buffer stock of 264 lakh tonne, FCI's stock has risen to 625 lakh tonne out of which 180 lakh tonne is rotting, Kirit Somaiya, BJP General Secretary, told reporters here.

He said huge quantity of foodgrain was rotting in FCI godowns in Rajasthan and blamed the Central government for it.

1,73,199 tonne of foodgrain is rotting in Rajasthan FCI godowns alone, he claimed.
