A 19-year-old nursing student ended her life by consuming poison on Thursday night after being abducted and raped by two men earlier in the day in Jind district of Haryana.
Police have arrested one of the accused, identified as Sumit of Khanpur Barwala village in Jind district. A hunt is on to nab the other accused, identified as Gulab of Kirmara village in Hisar district, said Jind superintendent of police Rakesh Arya.
The crime came to light after the woman, who was studying at Gangaputra Hospital, Kandela, Jind, consumed poison at her house in Dariawala village and was rushed to hospital.
In her dying statement, given to judicial magistrate, first class, Pawandeep Kaur, the woman said she was waiting for a bus to return home when two strangers forcibly pushed her into their Chevrolet Beat car at the Jind-Patiala chowk. The accused took her to a secluded place and raped her before pushing her out of the car near Dariawala village bus stand, said the victim, whose father is a farmer.
Investigating officer (IO) inspector Dharamvir said call details of the victim’s mobile phone helped the cops identify the accused. The woman had received calls from Gulab, he said. The car used in the crime has also been identified, said the IO.
The duo has been booked under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide), 365 (abduction) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
