2.6 kg gold, 11 kg silver articles found with BJP MLA, wife

Lokayukta police today unearthed 2.6 kgs of gold and silver articles weighing 11 kgs, among others, from the possession of Yelahanka BJP MLA SR Vishwanath and his wife during raids.

Lokayukta police on Monday unearthed 2.6 kgs of gold and silver articles weighing 11 kgs, among others, from the possession of Yelahanka BJP MLA SR Vishwanath and his wife during raids.

Bangalore Lokayukta city police raided the house of Vishwanath at Singanayakanahally and unearthed documents, other movable articles and immovables.

The are 1.1 kg of gold, silver articles weighing 11 kg, household articles amounting to Rs 40 lakh, two flats, four buildings, 65 acres of agriculture land besides cash of Rs 1.71 lakh, foreign currencies worth Rs 1.5 lakh, two cars and four tractors.

Subsequently, based on the lead, it was found that his wife Vanishree is the President of Raitha Seva Sahakara Bank Ltd, Singanayakanahally, where she owned two lockers - first locker contained Rs 14.5 lakh cash and the second one had gold weighing about 1.5 kg.

"The documents pertaining to immovable and movables like gold and silver, cash were seized for the purpose of investigations", Lokayukta police said. "Further investigation is in progress".

One Shashidhar had approached the 23rd Additional City Civil and Sessions Court Bangalore, alleging that Vishwanath had amassed huge wealth and due to these corrupt practices the MLA has accumulated weath in the form of immovable and movable properties disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Accordingly, the court has registered a complaint, further directed the Bangalore Lokayukta city police to investigate and submit report on January six. As per the court orders, a case was registered against him and investigation taken up on December 16, it was noted.
