BJP chief Rajnath Singh’s road-show here on Sunday was a high-profile affair, with two chief ministers of states governed by the party joining him in his campaign.
With Raman Singh and Manohar Parrikar, chief ministers of Chhattisgarh and Goa, by his side, Singh urged Lucknow residents to elect him to strengthen prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s hands.
The importance of the show could be gauged from the fact that many other important BJP leaders joined the event.
Sitting Lucknow MP Lalji Tandon, close aide of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Shiv Kumar, Delhi BJP leader Vijay Goel, Bhojpuri actor and singer Manoj Tiwari, Madhya Pradesh BJP chief Narendra Tomar were among those at the event that covered a distance of 40 km.
Party volunteers found it difficult to manage the traffic and the resultant bottlenecks caused considerable inconvenience to commuters. Amit Puri, coordinator of the road-show, said Rajnath called upon the people to “put the heat and anger into your vote”.
Parrikar, who addressed supporters and onlookers at one point, said he was overwhelmed by the support of Lucknowites for Rajnath.
“This saffron surge has ensured a poll victory for Rajnath. This is not a wave but a tsunami of Modi in every corner of the country. The voters want a change as they are fed up of the corrupt Congress rule,” he said.
Rajnath promised to change the destiny of the city and the country if the BJP comes to power. “Atalji wanted Lucknow to be developed as a biotech city and I will work to fulfil his dreams,” he said.
The road-show was welcomed at several points by local residents and BJP supporters who showered rose petals and flowers on Rajnath. The BJP chief will lead another road show on Monday, covering different parts of the city.
