Two people were killed and 11 injured on Tuesday when a lorry rammed into an express train at an unmanned railway crossing near this town.

Lorry driver Khader Mohideen, 27, and Ananda Kumar, 24, a pedestrian, died instantly in the accident which took place in the suburb of Eechanani, police officials said.

Mohideen, who was trying to cross over the rail tracks, saw the Mangalore-bound train approaching but it was too late, eyewitnesses said. The lorry hit the third compartment of the train, which whizzed past without stopping.
