The wait is finally over for residents of DLF Phase 2 who got a community centre after nearly two decades.

Joint commissioner of police Alok Mittal inaugurated the centre on Saturday as the residents celebrated by participating in the two-day 'Indoor Sporting Event- 2011' organised by the Progressive Residents Group DLF Phase 2.

Set up in the 1980s, DLF City spread in five phases. It had only one community centre till now and residents had no alternative venue for organising family functions or any other group activity.

Apart from having rooms and a lawn to host ceremonies and recreational activities, the new centre has two table tennis and badminton courts to encourage sports among the youth.

Residents of all age-groups on Saturday participated in badminton, table tennis, carom and chess events at the new recreation centre. "We have never had such a facility earlier. It is a very new concept for us and residents are very enthusiastic. We plan to hold many more events in the future," Rajiv Manchanda, one of the participants, said.

Cricketer Arun Misra, who has played in Ranji matches, said, "It is a good platform for children and sports enthusiasts to come over during weekends and spend quality time with their families." Winners of the each event will be awarded with a trophy, medal and certificate, the organiser said.
