2 held for attack on MCG councillor

The city police have arrested two professional shooters for their alleged involvement in the attack on MCG councillor Binder Gujjar and his associate last year.

The accused have been identified as Bishambhar, 30, a resident of Gurgaon and Vineet from UP. According to the police, Bishambhar has confessed to the crime which took place on April 27.

One of the accused was arrested in Delhi while another was arrested in Gurgaon on Tuesday. They have been sent to the police remand till January 27 by a local court.

Both the accused have a criminal background. They were earlier booked for murder, attempt to murder and looting in NCR areas.

“We have arrested these two and can not rule out their involvement in the Binder Gujjar case. We are investigating the matter,” said Maheshwari Dayal, DCP (east), Gurgaon police.

On April 27 last year, Gujjar and his associate Anil Kakran were shot at by some bike-borne assailants near old municipal office. While the councillor suffered serious injuries, his aide Kakran died in the attack.

The attackers opened fire when both the victims were coming out from the old municipal office at around 7.30pm. Later they managed to flee from the spot.

Gujjar is a councillor from ward 21. According to a police source, the assailants fired seven rounds. Gujjar has earlier survived two life attempts. He is allegedly involved in many crimes. Gujjar was arrested on July 5, 2011 for his alleged involvement in the double murder that took place in Rithauj village on June 26.
