Two women on a Panvel-bound local train were injured on Tuesday night after an unidentified person flung a glass bottle at the door.

At around 8.30pm, minutes after the train left Govandi station on the harbour line, the bottle came flying towards the train, hitting the top of pole at the door of the women compartment’s and broke into pieces. Harshada Jhanjhe, 30, and Namrata Dubey 19, who were standing near the door, sustained injuries on their foreheads, the Vashi Government Railway Police (GRP) said.

Jhanjhe started bleeding and later started feeling dizzy. Concerned co-passengers helped her to get off at Mankhurd railway station where she approached the police and was given medication.

Dubey’s injuries were less serious.

“The glass broke into pieces and hit the women passengers. Two of them approached us after which we have registered a case,” said PM Karyakarte, senior police inspector, Vashi GRP.

A case under section 152 of the Railway Act (maliciously hurting or attempting to hurt persons travelling by railway) has been registered in this regard.

The Vashi GRP detained and questioned a few people in this regard on Tuesday night.
