Two people died while 10 got injured in a mishap that took place on the Synthan Duksum Chingam Kishtwar road on Saturday.

According to reports, a Cruiser (JK03 0744), which was on its way to Kishtwar Doda from Srinagar via Synthan rolled down near Chingam, leaving a man dead on the spot, while a woman died in the hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Mohammed Hussain Dar of Seel, Doda, and Dilshada Begum of Kahara Gondho, Doda.

The police and the locals shifted the injured to Chattru hospital from where they were further referred to Kishtwar hospital for advance treatment.

The doctor treating the patients said three people have received serious injuries and the rest were out of danger.

The actual cause of the accident is not known. Locals said the accident took place due to narrow and unattended road, which is in pathetic condition despite spending huge amount on its repair.

Former home minister and MLA, Kishtwar, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo expressed his sympathies with the bereaved families.

He has demanded an ex-gratia relief to the affected families saying that outdated vehicles should not be allowed to ply on these hilly roads and instead additional traffic cops should be engaged for checking licences and overloading so that accidents can be minimised.

The total number of deaths due to accidents in the past two weeks has gone to nine and more than 50 people have received injuries in the region.
