A man was hacked to death in Palwal after he went to complain to the family of a youth who was harassing his daughter. His nephew, who was accompanying him, died too.

Late on Thursday evening, Layak Ram, his nephew Naveen and two others - residents of Harphali village under Palwal Sadar police station - had gone to the home of one Bhop Lal.

Bhop Lal's son Pankaj was allegedly harassing Layak Ram's daughter Bindu.

An altercation began soon and Lal's relatives allegedly attacked their visitors with sharp weapons.

Layak Ram and Naveen were rushed to a hospital in Faridabad, where they were declared dead on arrival. Their two companions were seriously injured.

A case of murder was lodged against 17 people, said Anil Dhawan, superintendent of police, Palwal.

Pankaj, Bhop Lal, Lal's wife Geeta, brother Pappu and one Suresh were arrested.

The bodies of Layak Ram and Naveen were handed over to their families after postmortem, the police said.
