Two suspected ULFA militants were killed in an encounter with a combined team of police, BSF and CRPF in lower Assam's Kamrup (Metro) district on Sunday while the border guards seized 320 cattle in Dhubri near the Bangladesh border.

Acting on a tip off from the BSF, a joint team of CRPF and Assam Police was patrolling Nawakuchi, under Khetri police station in the district, official sources said.

As three insurgents fired at the security forces at around 3 am, the personnel retaliated and two ultras were gunned down while the third escaped.

A 9-mm pistol, a magazine and six rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain ultras, the sources said.

In separate raid, the Border Security Force (BSF) seized 320 cattle and contraband items, worth Rs 72 lakh, from Dhubri district in Assam bordering Bangladesh.

The seizure was made when the cattle and contraband goods were being smuggled to the neighbouring country, a BSF spokesman said.
