Direct marketing giant Amway India chairman and CEO William Scott Pinckney and two company directors have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody by a court in Wayanad.

The CEO and two directors, Sanjay Malhotra and Anshu Budhraja, were arrested by Wayanad crime branch (economic offences wing) from Kozhikode on Monday in connection with three different cases registered against them.

Kalpetta judicial first class magistrate court remanded them to 14-day custody turning down their bail pleas.

They were charged under section 420 of IPC (cheating) and sections 3 and 4 of the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act of 1978.

All the accused had secured anticipatory bail from Kerala high court in another case filed on a complaint by a housewife Visalakshi Amma.

In her complaint she alleged that agents of Amway had collected Rs. 3.50 lakh from her for products of Amway and asked her to add more members to the chain.

When she could not add new members she demanded her money back but the agents refused to return the money.

Three similar cases were registered against Amway in Meppady in Wayanad district.

Last year the crime branch had conducted searches at the Amway offices throughout the state as part of its crackdown on money chain activities. Many godowns were closed and enough goods seized.
