20-yr-old girl foils kidnapping bid

A brave 20-year-old girl foiled an armed bid by four youths to kidnap her in Nurpur area of Kangra district on Friday.

Four youths abducted a girl from Sulyali village of Nurpur subdivision when she was on her way to a local swing training centre. The youths forced her into a jeep at knifepoint and took her towards Raja ka Talab. They stopped the vehicle near Jhajwan to fetch some water.

Finding an opportunity to escape, the girl bit on the hand of one of the abductors, jumped out of the vehicle and raised the alarm.

Hearing the girl cry for help, the locals rushed towards the vehicle. Foreseeing trouble, the abductors fled the spot.

The girl than called up her father, who informed the police. The police swung into action and launched a massive manhunt to nab the accused.
Deputy superintendent of police, Nurpur, Rajeev Attri said the three youths identified as Vidyanshu, Ravinder Singh and Rakesh Chaudhary have been arrested, while the fourth accused was still on large.

The three arrested were produced in the court on Saturday from where they were sent to four-day police remand. The police have also compounded the vehicle used in the crime.
