A 24-hour general strike has been called by a local committee from midnight tonight in Manipur demanding that the state government book the culprits involved in the recent killings of a Sub-Divisional Officer and his two subordinate staff members.

In a statement in Imphal on Wednesday, Joint Action Committee (JAC), formed by local residents to protest killings of SDO of Kasom Khullen in Ukhrul district Th Kishan, his driver A Rajen and a revenue official Y Token, said state government was not doing enough to arrest the killers of the three officials.

JAC spokesman S Tiken said although Manipur assembly had strongly condemned the killings of the three by NSCN-IM militants on February 17 last and decided to urge the government to book the culprits, but no serious action has been taken by the state government so far.

He said the general strike would be supported by several local clubs, social organisations and different groups.
