Twenty-eight medical officials including six doctors have been suspended for remaining absent from duty in Pulwama district, official sources said on Sunday.

They were found absent by Minister of State for Health and Power Peer Mohammad Hussain during a surprise visit on Saturday to the Sub-District Hospital at Pampore in Pulwama district, the sources said. Hussain ordered strict action should be taken against the officials.

He directed the director of health services to transfer the officials to Ladakh and Kupwara as part of their punishment for gross negligence of duties.

Expressing concern at the careless attitude of the officials, Hussain asked the block medical officer to conduct regular inspections of health institutions and to discourage the trend of truancy and absenteeism among officials, saying the healthcare should not suffer due to the lackadaisical attitude of employees.
