Three officials of the Chaibasa district jail in Jharkhand were arrested on Tuesday for helping three Maoists escape from the jail in West Singhbhum district on Monday.

The trio - jailer Mohammad Shamsuddin, head warden Kamal Ram and warden Liyush Tigga - was taken into police custody following a complaint by the jail superintendent.

While the head warden and warden have been charged with assisting the rebels in their escape, the jailer has been accused of negligence.

"During initial investigation, we found the officials had helped the guerillas escape," said Arun Kumar Singh, SP West Singhbhum. The officials were later produced before the chief judicial magistrate who sent them to 14 days' judicial custody in the same jail.

The three Maoist -Raghunath Hembrom, Girish Mahato and Motilal Soren -escaped from the jail by scaling its walls. All three had been in jail for nearly three years.
