Three people were killed and four others injured in a powerful blast in Manipur’s capital city of Imphal on Sunday.
“It was an IED (improvised explosive device) blast…the device was planted by the roadside near Khuyathong area, close to Imphal market,” a senior police officer told HT. “One person died on the spot, while two others died in hospital. All of them were migrant labourers.”
This is the second incident in the state where several separatist groups operate. On December 15, two men were killed and one injured when an IED went off in Imphal.
The four injured, also labourers, were rushed to a hospital and their condition was critical, according to sources.
No arrests have been made so far. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the blast either.
Deputy chief minister Gaikhangam accompanied by the principal secretary (home) Dr J Suresh Babu and DGP Manipur Saheed Ahmed visited the injured in hospital.
