Three Maoists killed in night-long encounter

Three Maoists were killed and several injured during a night-long encounter with security forces in Vishnugarh jungles in this district of Jharkhand.

The encounter took place when a large contingent of security forces headed by CRPF Deputy Commandant R K Mishra and Vishnugarh police station in-charge Bhola Singh raided the jungles on Hazaribag-Bokaro border, about 90 km from Hazaribag district, Superintendent of Police P K Singh said on Tuesday.

The Maoists are observing 'Martyrs Week' since Monday.

Singh said in all 350 rounds of bullets were exchanged between the two sides during the encounter which lasted till Tuesday morning.

All the bodies were recovered and one of the killed is believed to be a sub-zonal commander of the CPI(Maoist).

There was no casualty on the side of the security forces as they were strategically positioned during the gun battle and search operations are on to find about the fate of the injured ultras, he said.

One SLR, three rifles and a large quantity of cartridges were recovered from the site.
