Two guerrillas and a soldier were killed in an overnight gun battle that started when troops surrounded a Jammu and Kashmir village on suspicion that terrorists were hiding inside.
Police said Rashtriya Rifles troops surrounded Aliyalpora village near Shopian, 70 km from Srinagar, on Thursday afternoon after receiving information that terrorists were holed up inside a house.
"The security forces surrounded the village and mounted searches. During the search operation, the troop came under fire from hiding terrorists resulting in a soldier dying on the spot. One soldier was injured and was taken to hospital," said a senior police officer.
Giving details of the incident, he said security forces returned the fire.
"In the nightlong fighting, troops killed the two holed up terrorists. Arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, were recovered from the site of the incident," he said.
