Thirty persons, including five security personnel were injured in fresh clashes on Saturday when authorities tired to control people demonstrating for the sixth consecutive day seeking action in connection with the suspicious deaths of two women in Shopian.

Normal life was paralysed when people took to the streets, decrying police inaction on the deaths, and clashed with CRPF personnel in downtown Srinagar as part of the separatist-sponsored strike over the raging issue.

Protests and clashes were also reported from Baramulla and Sopore town of north kashmir and Anantnag, Pulwama, Bijbehara, Tral and other areas of south Kashmir. However, there was no report of any casualty.

Residents of Fateh Kadal and Karfali Mohalla alleged that paramilitary troops smashed window panes of many houses and beat up people after they staged demonstrations in the areas.

People in the old city also took to the streets after a cleric claimed that a bullet had struck a minaret of the Jamma masjid when security forces fired in the air to disperse the mob.

Officials however quickly brushed it aside by saying that security forces only fired in the air to disperse the mob and a bullet may had accidentally hit a minaret.
