A TOTAL of 4,122 cases were disposed of in the Lok Adalat held at district civil court premises here today. Judge of M P High Court Justice Deepak Misra, who is also the chairman of Legal Aid Authority, inaugurated the Lok Adalat in the morning.
There were 33 presiding officers in the Lok Adalat, who disposed of 4,122 cases including 484 cases of revenue, 153 motor accident claim cases, 112 cases under Electricity Act, 890 petty criminal cases, five cases under Cooperative Act, 14 cases relating to labour disputes, seven family disputes, 360 cases of cheque bounce and 19,920 pre-litigation cases. Besides, 102 cases were disposed of at Berasia court.
The courts awarded Rs 55,47,000 as compensation to victims of road accident during the Lok Adalat. Students of National Law Institute University (NLIU) also assisted the courts and litigants in disposal of cases through compounding and compromise.
Earlier, inaugurating the Lok Adalat, Justice Deepak Misra said all people and agencies concerned including judges, lawyers, insurance firms, litigants, media and NGOs had extended full support in making the Lok Adalat successful.
Justice Mishra further said over 40,000 cases had been settled in Lok Adalats held in different parts of the State over the past four- and-a-half months.
Senior lawyer Harish Mehta donated two wheel chairs on the occasion for litigants rendered handicapped in road accidents.
